We're working! / Organization of excursions (page 2)
Let's start with the unexpected: participants in one of our personal tours of Moscow witnessed a truly unique event! During a stop at A. I. Derozhinskaya's turquoise mansion on Kropotkinsky Lane, built by the great architect Fyodor Schechtel in 1902-1903, a staff member at the Australian Ambassador's residence suddenly decided to turn on the light in the hall. Our guide, Maria, our expert in architecture and more, revealed the news. This allowed our group of five charming ladies to see paintings and frescoes usually hidden from view. Masha, who had previously written a research paper about the residence, enthusiastically shared new details about the house. The light turned on in the former owner's living room allowed the participants to admire murals based on sketches by Borisov-Musatov, which were added during a recent restoration. Read more...

New Tretyakov Gallery: Avant-garde and Socialist Realism. A Foreigner's Third Visit to Moscow / Day 5

Tretyakov Gallery Reveals the Spirit of Russian Art
Friday began for our guide Elena and her guest Denise from Romania with a morning visit to the New Tretyakov Gallery. The guide met her at her hotel, and they took the metro to the museum. However, Denise immediately admitted that contemporary art impresses her less. Nevertheless, the visit to the exhibition was an excellent opportunity to see the Russian avant-garde in all its glory: works by Petrov-Vodkin, Goncharova, Larionov, Chagall, Malevich, and, of course, Suprematism. Socialist Realism was also on display, with paintings by Pimenov, Konchalovsky, and other masters of the period. Denise noted that she still prefers classical art. This is unsurprising, as she had already visited the historic Tretyakov Gallery building the day before. The guide explained that this contrast helps one better understand the diversity of Russian art. Read more...

Ice Tea and Lego: How Moscow Surprised a Romanian Guest. A Foreigner's Third Visit to Moscow / Day 4
On the fourth day of a private tour in Moscow, our guide Elena gave her guest a busy itinerary. It all began with a visit to the panoramic deck on the 89th floor of the Moscow-City complex. They reached the complex by metro, allowing them to experience the rhythm of city life. A surprise awaited the guests at the deck: the Chistaya Liniya company presented a new product—hot iced tea. These were brightly colored berry bars that simply needed boiling water to create a fragrant drink. The guide told her guest about the views from above, and together they took photos against the glass panels decorated with artwork, including the famous Banksy-style girl with a balloon. An interesting discovery was that the space, which had been used as a movie theater during the summer, now houses a Lego museum. Read more...

Tretyakov Gallery, Vegetarian Cafe and Shopping in Moscow. Foreigner's Third Visit to Moscow / Day 3
Who would have thought that a personal tour of Moscow could turn into a true journey through art, gastronomy, and shopping? The guide began our English-speaking guest's tour with a visit to the Tretyakov Gallery. It was the third day of the program, and it promised to be action-packed. The tour of the Tretyakov Gallery lasted about two hours. Our guest, who had already visited the Hermitage and many European galleries, was impressed by the collection of Russian art. She particularly enjoyed the classical works, although for some reason she declined to have her photo taken in front of them. However, our guide did take several framed photos with her in the interactive corner—the result was very atmospheric. After exploring the gallery, they went to the Sok café, which was originally vegetarian but now offers meat dishes. Read more...

The second day of our individual program took place at VDNKh. Our guest had been there before, but was so impressed by the place that she wanted to return. The guide picked her up from her hotel, and they took the metro to the exhibition complex. The tour, in English, began with a tour of the national pavilions. Our guest showed particular interest in Central Asia, purchasing food, cosmetics, and small souvenirs. She had originally planned to go ice skating, but as a dental surgeon, she decided not to risk it. She explained that a hand injury could affect her work. Instead, the tour continued on foot, including a visit to the lighting show at the Moscow pavilion. We had lunch at a teahouse, enjoying the authentic atmosphere and cozy trestle beds. Read more...

A third visit to Russia, language learning, and plans to move—that's how our personal tour began for Denisa, who is in love with Moscow and its culture. She had already been here last summer, and before that, in 2019, she visited St. Petersburg. This time, she arrived in January, six months after her last visit (photo report here), and judging by her passion for the Russian language and films, Moscow could become her future home. We were delighted that this charming foreigner chose us again, and we again provided her with Elena as her guide. The first day of the program included a stroll along Arbat Street, the city center, and an unforgettable flight over the city in Zaryadye Park. All transportation this time was by metro, for which we had previously purchased a three-day unlimited travel card for Denisa (incidentally, we had to repurchase it). Read more...

Tour guide Maria gave guests an eight-hour guided tour of Moscow just in time for Christmas. The group began at the home of a family from Ivanovo. The group included a mother, father, adult daughter, an eight-year-old boy, and grandmother. Their journey began with a visit to the Kremlin's Cathedral Square, where they had reserved tickets in advance. Within the Kremlin, the participants explored its main attractions. The guide described the Palace of Congresses, the Assumption, Archangel, and Annunciation Cathedrals, the Faceted Chamber, the Church of the Deposition of the Robe, the Patriarch's Palace, the Ivan the Great Bell Tower, the Tsar Bell, and the Tsar Cannon. The Kremlin Christmas tree, which the eight-year-old boy particularly enjoyed, was a particular highlight. The group visited the Assumption and Annunciation Cathedrals, where they were captivated by ancient Russian art: icons, iconostasis, and murals. Read more...
Guides Anton and Alexey set off with the MGIMO participants on buses. The individual route took the shortest route along Vernadsky Avenue, offering magnificent views of the capital. The guides shared interesting information about Moscow and its landmarks, such as Moscow State University and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. After disembarking at Vasilievsky Spusk, Masha and Nastya joined the guides, and the participants regrouped. Everyone was given headphones, and the organizers set a clear goal: be at the Kremlin's Kutafya Tower in an hour and a half so that the participants could attend the concert. Unfortunately, the tour began an hour later than scheduled, due to a delay caused by some participants. The group included many MGIMO students representing various regions, as well as guests from Transnistria and Armenia. Read more...

Today's private tour began in an unexpected place—in the heart of Moscow, on Krivokolenny Lane, where the guide met our guests at their hotel. The original plan was to tell the participants about the history of the ancient alleys and buildings, but plans changed slightly: the guests' first priority was finding a bank to exchange currency. It was their only day in the capital before their trip to Norilsk, so the guide helped them navigate. The snowfall and cold Moscow air were surprising, especially considering their next destination was harsh Norilsk. While the tour group searched for the bank, the guide actively assisted, visiting them inside and chatting. A translator, who accompanied her guide, provided translation support, and after all technical issues were resolved, the group took a taxi to the city center. Read more...

Today, we had another wonderful personalized sightseeing tour in English! Our guest had originally planned to travel by car, but ultimately decided it was best to explore the city on foot. The weather was favorable, and together with our guide, Maria, they set off from the Balchug Hotel to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Our guest was eager to ask questions, intrigued by Moscow's history and national events, including how and why the Kremlin was built. They discussed the interior of the monumental "House on the Embankment" and its development. As they passed it, our guide, Maria, hadn't yet had time to tell us about the building's tragic history, connected to the purges. Our guest expressed bewilderment at how such a "horrible" building could have been built amidst such beautiful architecture, including the Kremlin and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Read more...

Atmospheric places of Moscow in the company of Yandex
Moscow's Front and Secret Places for Yandex
A year ago, we organized a drinking tour for Yandex near Moscow State University. Today, we're summing up our collaboration with the IT giant and their "Summer Together" project this year. As part of the corporate event, Yandex employees were immersed in our bureau's fascinating city tours every week. On Saturdays, six individual groups embarked on a journey through Moscow's cultural attractions, accompanied not only by guides but also by curators who assisted with organizational matters and assessed the guests' impressions. After each tour, participants shared their feedback in the corporate automated system. Our guides immersed participants in the atmosphere of "The Soul of Moscow" (a tour through the alleys of Kitay-gorod), the grandiose VDNKh, Gilyarovsky's Moscow, and the cozy Zamoskvorechye district. Yesterday, a private tour was held for guests from sunny Thailand. Tour guide Maria led a couple of young people on foot and by metro through Moscow's most interesting sights, starting from the Continental Hotel across from the English Club. The Thais' business partners from Rostelecom arranged with Anton, Radius's art director, to allow their colleagues from Southeast Asia to become acquainted with Russian culture and history. The participants showed a keen interest in our history, family relationships, and everyday life, asking a multitude of questions, including what we usually eat and what we eat more often—meat or chicken—and what we buy and cook. From the hotel, the participants took the Moscow metro, visiting the Tverskaya, Teatralnaya, Ploshchad Revolyutsii, and Arbatskaya stations. Read more...

Bulgakov and Mayakovsky are two antipodes in Soviet literature. A writer and a poet, they created works that reflect different aspects of the era.
We're sharing the story of a unique series of signature tours for Faberlic. This captivating story began in July, when guide Anastasia led a private tour called "The Soul of Moscow" for a man and his daughter. This extraordinary journey was so impressive that, to his surprise, the man, who turned out to be the director of Faberlic, decided to organize a series of corporate tours for employees. And so it began! At the end of July, the first city tour, "Bypass," began, under the sensitive guidance of guide Anton. The participants' impressions exceeded all expectations. It was followed by a walk called "The Master and Margarita," this time in the company of our guide, Anastasia. The adventure began at the Mayakovsky monument, which raised many questions among the participants, as the tour's theme was Bulgakov. Read more...

Guide Anastasia led a tour for the employees of a private multidisciplinary clinic located near Petrovka Street. The clinic's director decided to organize the excursion so that the staff, who have worked in this historic district for over ten years, could finally learn more about the area's history. The purpose of the event was twofold: not only to learn about the rich history but also to organize a small corporate event with plenty of photos. Eleven employees attended the tour, and the chosen route was quite successful. The clinic's office is surrounded by numerous architectural landmarks that provide insight into the city's architectural development. Within a few minutes' walk, one can see classicism, modernism, and constructivism. The proximity of the Garden and Boulevard Rings facilitated a vivid discussion of Moscow's development. Read more...

A young woman who came to Moscow from Romania lives in the small town of Kraevo in the south of the country. She is a dental implantologist by profession. She has many years of training behind her: six years at university and another five years in the surgical department. She specializes exclusively in constructing bridges in jaws, to which implants are then attached, while her colleagues handle the rest of the work. Her own dental clinic is not just a business, but the result of her hard work and skill. By all accounts, she is successful and works hard. She lives in a house near Kraevo, which she reaches in half an hour. She also has a cozy place in Zanzibar, which she calls her dacha. Our guest came to Moscow to improve her qualifications. This is her second visit to Russia: her first was to St. Petersburg. Read more...

How much more expensive is organizing a personal tour than a mass one?
If you are alone or in pairs, then a sum of several thousand for a walk around the city or twenty thousand for a car excursion is noticeable.
But if you're going for a walk with family or friends, the cost per individual participant is closer to a thousand or two - about what each person would pay for a group excursion with strangers.
For a group of 8 or more people, the price becomes even lower when calculated per person, which makes an individual excursion truly attractive.
***
A mass excursion is tourism, an individual excursion is a journey through the city’s secrets with a personal guide.
