Below are photo reports in which there are no excursionists, but only our guides: a couple of notes about training, conferences of Moscow guides and similar “infighting”. If you want to see our professional truants also from the monitor, but in action, visit the “Working!” page. — it is full of reports about excursions. You can see the faces of some of the Radius guides and read short essays about them on the “Guides” page. It’s even better to choose an excursion or book a guide (you can bring a car) for a couple of hours.
Moscow tour guides of "Radius"
Recently, the guides from the Radius personal tour agency gathered to walk one of their routes, share their impressions, and update their signature program, "Journey to Christmas." Anton, the tour leader and author, immersed the children in a magical fairytale atmosphere. During their walk around the city, the guides learned that Manezhnaya Square hosts a new exhibition each year. This year, they created themed zones: Crafts, Merchant, Noble, and Trade Moscow. A tall young man dressed in merchant attire walks along Merchant Moscow, while in Noble Moscow, a young man dressed in noble attire greets guests. Overall, the guides were pleased, combining business with pleasure: they reminisced about old experiences and learned something new, prepared for their guests, and thoroughly enjoyed their time with their colleagues. The Radius private tour agency periodically conducts training for personal guides. Anton, who develops new and exciting tour itineraries around Moscow and then trains his colleagues, runs these training sessions. This time, the city guides took the "Window to Europe" route (formerly known as "Foreign Customs"), which takes in the Lefortovo Park and District of Moscow, near the Baumanskaya metro station. Catherine's Palace is currently in disrepair, but if restored, it would become a true gem of the area. Many guides, and indeed anyone who has strolled through the area, are struck by the white and gray building with arches, built as part of the renovation program and housing residents from old five-story buildings. An axiom of the tour guide profession is that any self-respecting tour guide should never stunt their development. Our agency has long had a tradition of group walks along our signature tour paths. These encounters allow for the exchange of knowledge and experience, broadening horizons, and capturing the dynamic changes in the city. It's helpful for guides to meet periodically, compare route maps, maintain a distinctive approach to presenting information, and reach a common understanding of the thematic content of their tours. Recently, our diligent five-person regular tour guide team—Anton, Alexey, Anastasia, Elena, and Valeria—took a group walk through the alleys and courtyards of the Arbat area. Read more...

Local history isn't just about excursions. From time to time, fellow Moscow experts hold thematic conferences. Anton Latynin, head of our bureau, attended one such scientific and practical event, organized by the Basmania Museum. The venue was the Museum of Moscow on Zubovsky Boulevard. The conference, codenamed "Waters of Basmania," was dedicated to the historical and natural heritage of the Basmanny District. The invited experts focused on water—the Yauza River, its underground tributaries, and the historical heritage along its banks. They discussed various typologies of district identity, from palaces to factories. Of particular interest to conference guests and attendees was the experts' insights into the vibrant life of the city's rivers and streams, which is often invisible on the surface. Read more...

Have you noticed, friends, how hot spots and atmospheric drinking establishments have been popping up like mushrooms after rain in the capital's countryside in recent years? Whatever you say, our society is experiencing an extraordinary gastronomic boom right now. The variety of formats and ways to while away your time with a glass of wine is off the charts. Even the most seasoned connoisseurs of drinking establishments can't always keep up with new discoveries. Periodically, it's essential to patrol familiar streets and spot new establishments. With this goal in mind, two of our main drinking guides, Anton and Alexey, recently embarked on a reconnaissance mission to discover the latest "hot spots." The expedition was quite successful. The guys spotted several unique drinking holes. During their tour, they even came up with a preliminary concept for "Hot Spots 2," a sequel to the program beloved by many. Read more...

New “Radius” guides for walking around Moscow!
In November, we recruited a team of guides to conduct private tours of Moscow. November is traditionally the "off-season," and while tours were few and far between, we devoted our time, among other things, to finding new guides! Nastya selected candidates and created Anton's schedule, and our artistic director was given a two-week marathon: Anton interviewed three or four guides for the agency almost every day. We reviewed over 300 applications, and approximately 30 made it to the interview stage. In total, seven highly qualified city guides joined our team. Most of them had already conducted at least one tour for Radius. Many have a high level of English (C2) – they are guide-interpreters. But selecting the best guides isn't enough. Read more...

Anthology of Moscow. Big and Small
The Road to Tour Guides: Muscovite—it sounds proud! In the regions, it's sometimes embarrassing. Being born in Moscow isn't difficult. A line in your passport isn't particularly noteworthy. There are about 12 million of us lucky ones. Quite a crowd, if you think about it. By European standards, it's actually quite excessive. But that's not our point now—we'll leave the numbers to the pollsters. It's far more interesting to study the mood of the capital's population, to capture the symphony of opinions among the people. In this and subsequent essays, we'll attempt to dissect the character of a Muscovite. Of course, there won't be any uniformity in perceptions. Without denying individuality, we'll focus, however, on the similarities. In most biographies of the average city dweller, parallel storylines inevitably emerge. Take, for example, school years. How much more expensive are personal tours than mass tours?
If you are alone or in pairs, then a sum of several thousand for a walking tour of the city or twenty thousand for a car excursion is significant.
But if you're going for a walk with family or friends, the cost for an individual participant approaches one or two thousand - the amount that each person would pay for a group excursion with strangers.
For your group of 8 or more people, the price becomes even lower when calculated per person, making a private tour truly attractive.

A mass excursion is tourism, an individual excursion is a journey through the city’s secrets with a personal guide.
