Moscow Mix: Samolet Developers and History
Guide Maria led a personalized tour for the vibrant developer Samolet in Moscow, where clients wanted not only to see the modern residential complexes but also to gain insight into the history of their neighborhoods. The guide and guests strolled through Zamoskvorechye, explored Bolotny Island, and concluded their journey at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior near the Kropotkinskaya metro station. The "airplane pilots" were particularly interested in exploring the architectural features and the connection between the past and the present.
The walk began at the Novokuznetskaya metro station, where the guide Maria told about the toponymy of Zamoskvorechye, the historical meaning of the names of the streets and the Poroskeva Pyatnitsa church. The participants of the tour walked along Pyatnitskaya Street, discussing Art Nouveau apartment buildings. One of the highlights was the discussion of the door in one of the houses, which, although it looks Art Nouveau, was installed only in 2018. The unusual detail added by the residents of the house aroused keen interest.
After the historical walk, the visitors dropped into the cozy Perezvon coffee shop on the first floor of the bell tower of the Church of St. John Pritechi under the Forest. Here they discussed the temple architecture, immersing themselves in the architectural styles of the 16th-18th centuries. Continuing the tour, the group reached the modern residential complex Balchuk Viewpoint, where the developers appreciated its unique architecture with large areas of glazing and geometric facades.
The guide and the tourists discussed the real estate market, including prices per square meter, and heard the biography of the vodka king Smirnov. Then followed a visit to other modern residential complexes on the island, such as Tsarev Sad and Mandarin Oriental, where the guide told about the modern architectural solutions of the Skuratov and Spich bureau.
The walking tour continued through Repinsky Square, where guests learned about the festivals held there and the historical continuity, starting with Peter I. On Luzhkov Bridge, participants took photos against the backdrop of the new building of the Tretyakov Gallery. The guide spoke about modern architectural trends, such as digital printing on glass, and the history of the Tretyakov family.
The group explored the Lavrushinsky and Armani Casa residential complexes, where interior design is supervised by Giorgi Armani himself, and also discussed the hypogene garden and heated sidewalks, which may also appear in the Samolet company's projects. Guide Maria also conducted a tour of the Cloudnine residential complex, where historical facades are being restored and are becoming part of a new residential complex.
The walk ended at GES-2, where the participants learned how Renso Piano transformed the historic power plant into a modern museum complex. They discussed the reconstruction of the Red October area and the plans of architect Grigoryan from the Meganum bureau. The participants also learned about the tragic history of the House on the Embankment and finished the route at the Kare Blanc residential complex, inspired by the architecture of the 13th century.
