Rain. It was an integral part of autumn Moscow when Nikolai Gogol, wrapped in a warm cloak, headed to the area KhokhlovkaThe dampness penetrated to the bones, and a slight cold was already beginning to creep up on the writer, like the shadow of a criminal hiding in the alleys of an ancient city.
In those days, Moscow lived its usual rhythm. The air was filled with the smell of wet leaves and street food, and the narrow streets of Khokhlovka were filled with people hurrying about their business. Gogol was not just a random passerby here; he was looking for inspiration, which seemed to be hidden in every brick of the ancient buildings.
But that day he encountered something more. At one of the corners where the crooked lines of the streets met, the writer encountered a man who looked like he had stepped out of his works. This stranger, in a shabby coat and with a shifty gaze, was trying to hide from the attention of passers-by. He looked suspicious, like a thief who had just committed a crime.
"They're watching me!" whispered the stranger when Gogol caught his eye. The writer couldn't help but notice the worry in his eyes. It was that moment when reality and fantasy intertwined in his mind. Gogol, feeling his cold doing its job, decided to follow the man, hoping that this meeting would give him a new plot for a story.
The stranger walked quickly over the wet cobblestones, leading Gogol deeper and deeper into the labyrinth of streets. Soon they found themselves in a quiet courtyard, where the whisper of the rain seemed a little louder. Here, under the canopy of an old arch, the man stopped and turned around.
"I have done nothing wrong, it is just that the world has become too complicated," he said, looking the writer straight in the eye. Gogol, despite his growing malaise, saw in this man something more than just a fugitive. This was a man who had lost himself in a huge city where anyone could become both a victim and a criminal at the same time.
When the rain began to subside, the stranger disappeared as suddenly as he had appeared. Gogol was left standing in the empty courtyard, thinking about how much you can see and hear just by listening to the noise of the city.
The next day, having recovered somewhat from his cold, Gogol returned to his notes. Inspired by the meeting, he conceived a new story in which each character would be as multi-layered and mysterious as this stranger from Khokhlovka.

The speakers are happy. The connection in the headphones often failed, especially at the checkpoint, but this is our current life situation. It was audible if they were standing close, no further than 1.5 meters. Colleagues have already asked for your contacts. I will gladly share and will be glad to have a new opportunity to work with you. Special thanks to the Director for the Bureau

"Theater capital" - an author's route through the places of Meyerhold, Stanislavsky, Nemirovich-Danchenko, Tairov (undeservedly forgotten, it was he who created the current Pushkin Theatre on Tverskoy Boulevard).
Two and a half hours of fascinating stories and urban theatre legends. I'll tell you one:
The great composer Sergei Prokofiev lived in Kamergersky Lane. And he managed to die on the same day as Stalin. There was a terrible crush in Moscow, everything was blocked off, the entire capital wanted to say goodbye to the leader. So, to see Prokofiev off, the coffin was carried out from Kamergersky Lane on the roofs. I can vividly imagine this picture.
