On a cold, damp evening above Taganka grey clouds hung overhead, like the personification of the oppressive thoughts that had enveloped Moscow. Old houses, from the time pre-revolutionary eras, kept many secrets, and one of them was waiting for its time to be told.
The legend said that in one of the narrow streets there was a wandering ghost, whose appearance resembles a fisherman lost in the waters of time. It was said that his cold was so severe that even death could not cure him. Now he wanders the streets, shrouded in fog, which is like his second skin.
Vladimir Gilyarovsky, known for his sharp pen and thirst for adventure, decided to solve this mystery. In the evening, he headed to Taganka, armed only with a lantern and his restless curiosity. That evening, the weather was especially capricious: the wind whistled in the alleys, and a light rain drizzled, as if the heavens were crying for forgotten times.
Gilyarovsky walked along the old buildings, remembering how life once boiled here, and now only echoes of the past wander in these places. He remembered how in 1812 Moscow was burning in flames, and people saved their lives, leaving behind all the pre-revolutionary luxury.
Suddenly his attention was drawn to a noise coming from one of the alleys. He slowly walked there, and in the light of the lantern he saw a silhouette - tall, hunched over, dressed in a fisherman's cloak. There was something elusively sad and mysterious about him.
“Who are you?” Gilyarovsky dared to ask, but in response only the wind rustled in the branches of the trees, as if laughing at his insolence.
The ghost disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared, leaving only a slight chill and a feeling that the history of Moscow holds many unsolved secrets. Gilyarovsky, inspired by the meeting, returned home, deciding that this story would definitely become part of his new stories about the life of the city.
Perhaps it was just a mirage, a figment of his imagination, but who knows what lies behind the mists Taganka.
