North-East of Moscow: Unexpected routes for lovers of history and nature

If you want to spend a day richly and educationally, but not in the banal and hackneyed locations of the capital, then the North-Eastern Administrative District of Moscow (SVAO) is an excellent choice. Here you will find unique parks, historical sites and modern cultural centers that will not leave anyone indifferent.

Ostankino TV Tower

One of the tallest television towers in the world (540 meters), built in 1967 according to the design of architect Nikolai Nikitin. It serves not only as a symbol of television and radio broadcasting in Russia, but also as one of the main attractions of Moscow. Having become a symbol not only of television broadcasting, but also of scientific and technological progress, at the time of its completion it was the tallest building in the world and held this title until 1976, when it was surpassed by the CN Tower in Toronto.

Ostankino TV Tower. The tallest structure in Europe. Height - 540.1 meters

An amazing height of 540.1 meters.

  • An observation deck at a height of 337 meters with a panoramic view of Moscow. Part of the floor is made of transparent glass, which allows you to feel the entire height of the tower.
  • The Seventh Heaven restaurant with a revolving hall makes a full rotation in 40 minutes.
  • Excursions, including visits to technical areas.
  • The tower is designed in the shape of a flower, reminiscent of an inverted lily - this unique engineering solution made it possible to reduce the pressure of the structure on the foundation and increase its stability.
  • Architect: Nikolai Nikitin, a famous Soviet engineer who also designed the Moscow State University high-rise building.
  • Design: The main shaft is made of pre-stressed reinforced concrete. The mass of the tower is about 55 thousand tons. To increase stability, the tower uses guy ropes made of high-strength steel.
  • Functions: The TV tower transmits television and radio signals to Moscow and the region. Today it is an important communications facility that covers more than 20 million people.
  • The TV tower has elevators that rise to the observation deck in a matter of minutes at a speed of 7 m/s.
  • The tower is built to withstand hurricanes, earthquakes and extreme temperature changes. It is capable of deflecting several meters under the influence of the wind, which ensures its stability.
  • In August 2000, a major fire broke out in the TV tower. The fire destroyed several floors, and the observation deck and elevators were damaged. Restoration work lasted for several years.

The Ostankino TV Tower is regularly used as a venue for light shows and festive installations. Its image has become a symbol of modern Moscow, found on souvenirs and postcards. Today it is an important tourist attraction, attracting thousands of tourists every year. Guests can not only visit the observation deck, but also learn the history of the tower, its architectural features and role in the development of television during the excursion. By the way, sometimes non-standard events are held on the tower, such as running up the stairs to a great height. We also take tourists to the tower upon individual request.

Losiny Ostrov National Park

A unique natural area that combines the functions of a national park and a nature reserve. It is located in the north-eastern part of Moscow and partly in the Moscow region, occupying an area of more than 12 thousand hectares. It is one of the largest urban natural parks in Europe and the only national park in Russia that borders a metropolis.

Losiny Ostrov National Park

The protected area "Losiny Ostrov"

Landscape and nature

The park includes forests, swamps, meadows, rivers and ponds. Most of the territory is covered by mixed forests, where pine, spruce, oak and birch trees dominate. Swamps and river floodplains create conditions for rich biodiversity.

Animal world

Elks are the symbol of the park, their number reaches several dozen individuals. Elks can be found deep in the forest, and sometimes even at the borders of residential areas. Beavers actively build dams on rivers and streams, creating entire ecosystems, and more than 150 species of birds live here, including rare ones such as the gray crane, buzzard, black stork and owl. Foxes, hares, wild boars, as well as small rodents and amphibians are also present.

Rivers and reservoirs

The Yauza, Pekhorka, Ichka and Kamenka rivers flow through the park. Lakes and ponds serve as habitats for waterfowl and recreation areas for visitors.

Losiny Ostrov is one of the first national parks where scientific research is organically complemented by educational work, while maintaining harmony with nature and forest inhabitants.

Walking routes and recreation areas

The park has kilometers of eco-trails suitable for walking, cycling and sports. Information stands are installed on the trails, telling about the plants and animals of the park. Well-equipped recreation areas with benches and gazebos will help you enjoy the moment, and there are places for picnics and nature observation near the ponds. Excursion trails allow you to get to know the park's ecosystem and its inhabitants in more detail.

Scientific and ecological significance

The park plays an important role in preserving natural ecosystems in a metropolitan environment. Programs to protect rare species of plants and animals are conducted here. The park organizes excursions, lectures, and events for children and adults aimed at developing ecological thinking. Scientists study biodiversity, ecological processes, and the impact of the urban environment on nature.

Facts

  • The park got its name from the moose that historically inhabited this territory and are still its main inhabitants.
  • Losiny Island is called the “lungs of Moscow” because it plays a huge role in cleaning the air and maintaining the ecological balance of the city.
  • The territory of Losiny Island was used for royal hunting as early as the 15th century.
  • In the 19th century, the park became a popular place for walks for Moscow aristocracy.

  13. Excursions with the travel agency "Radius" are always positive emotions for you, if you have chosen this agency. On your next visit, you planned an excursion to Zamoskvorechye. This is not the first time we have met with the guide Anton. We definitely recommend him to all our friends. The tour is educational, not overloaded with dates, the information is voluminous, but easy to perceive, because it is presented not like in a history textbook, dryly and academically, but in a light narrative manner. Thank you for this approach. We will contact the Radius bureau more than once on our next visit to Moscow.

  16. Studied together with relatives and Radius The soul of Moscow on my birthday. Everyone enjoyed the walk immensely! Anton told us many interesting facts about the capital and its history, led us into such spiritual depths that no one present suspected. Although among us there were mainly those who either from birth or have been living in Moscow for a very long time and walk around it a lot. It was educational, soulful and unforgettable 🙂

Overall, this wasn’t the first time I’ve walked around Moscow with Anton, and each time it was a real adventure!

  18. Good day to all! I would like to share my impressions of the excursion "Journey to Christmas". Our guide was Anastasia. So! Everything was just magical: a slight frost of -4, snow, numerous Christmas trees, decorations, lights, garlands and all this to the interesting educational story of Anastasia. Despite the fact that we knew something about the New Year, there was a lot that was new, unexpected and interesting. And all this to the music of Tchaikovsky. In general, we are delighted. Thank you for the New Year mood you gave us. It is priceless!!!! Thank you!

Thanks to this agency and of course to the tour guide Anton.
    Vyacheslav December 9, 2024
  23. The excursion is unusual, unconventional, I really liked it. The involvement of a girl in the role of Nina from "The Seagull" harmoniously fit into the narrative. I recommend developing in this direction. "Apartment 44" came in handy exactly at the moment when it was most needed. My wife is very pleased with both the excursion and the painting.

Note: Review of the excursion-performance, which the guide Alexander specially developed as part of the order "Dream Tour".

In addition to the walk and very interesting facts on the topic of the excursion, we went to incredibly creative establishments with delicious drinks and unusual serving, a cheerful contingent and a cool unusual interior, our guide Sasha took into account all our little wishes, conducted the excursion very cheerfully and sincerely! Thank you very much for a wonderful holiday! Very cool, we are delighted!

  25. This is the second time I've been walking and wandering around Moscow with the private excursion bureau Radius. The founder, native Muscovite Anton Latynin, a theater and art critic, leads the excursions himself and out of love.

"Theater capital" - an author's route through the places of Meyerhold, Stanislavsky, Nemirovich-Danchenko, Tairov (undeservedly forgotten, it was he who created the current Pushkin Theatre on Tverskoy Boulevard).

Two and a half hours of fascinating stories and urban theatre legends. I'll tell you one:

The great composer Sergei Prokofiev lived in Kamergersky Lane. And he managed to die on the same day as Stalin. There was a terrible crush in Moscow, everything was blocked off, the entire capital wanted to say goodbye to the leader. So, to see Prokofiev off, the coffin was carried out from Kamergersky Lane on the roofs. I can vividly imagine this picture.

    Review from Alexandra's tg channel.
Alexandra Tsvetkova, musician, singer-songwriter, finalist of the "New Wave" September 30, 2024

Benefits of individual excursions

  • The guide doesn't make stops at points of sale (at least we certainly don't).
  • You hear everything the tour guide says.
  • Immersion in the history of Moscow and adaptation of the route to your preferences.
  • An atmosphere of tranquility and privacy.
  • No one is in a hurry. Take a good look at the sights - they won't leave without you.
  • All attention is on you. Answers to all your questions.
  • There is less strain on your hearing and attention, since the guide is literally right next to you and speaks only for you.
  • The opportunity to discuss personal impressions and emotions with the guide during the process.
  • A personal guide remembers you, and you remember him. Such moments remain in memory.
  • Take a break when needed - to rest or take photos.
  • Without loud laughter and inappropriate jokes from other tour participants.
  • Your photos will not be crowded with other participants.
  • Opportunity to gain insight or exclusive information.
  • You don't have to get up early or come at an inconvenient time. You choose when.
  • Possibility to visit places closed to large groups.
  • Absence of outside pressure.
  • The excursion can be either educational or easy, depending on your wishes.
  • At individual excursion you dive deeper.

Personal excursions: cost and benefits

If you are alone or in pairs, then a sum of several thousand for a walking tour of the city or twenty thousand for a car excursion is significant.

But if you're going for a walk with family or friends, the cost for an individual participant approaches one or two thousand - the amount that each person would pay for a group excursion with strangers.

For your group of 8 or more people, the price becomes even lower when calculated per person, making a private tour truly attractive.

***
