On one of those grey Moscow days when the sky seems to hang over the rooftops like a heavy blanket, at the metro station Novokuznetskaya A real theatrical drama unfolded. Passengers, running past in a hurry, did not suspect that at that very moment something out of the ordinary was unfolding underground.
A young man in a tracksuit and with headphones in his ears was running along the platform, doing stretches and squats. His purposeful look attracted the attention of not only random passers-by, but also... a ghost. Yes, yes, it was exactly that, whitish and slightly transparent, that appeared out of nowhere right before the eyes of the astonished public.
The ghost, as it turned out, was not just a faceless spirit, but himself. Mikhail Bulgakov, who apparently decided to get out of his literary wilderness and see how modern Moscow lives. His eyes, full of sarcasm and slight fatigue, followed the athlete, who seemed not to notice anything around him.
"Oh, young people," Bulgakov said, looking around the station, "is physical education really all you're capable of? In my time, everything was different. My heroes and I turned the world upside down, and here you are jumping around like monkeys in a cage!"
But the athlete didn't listen. He was absorbed in his work, because the weather was bad outside, and training in the open air was impossible. And who needs to listen to some ghost when the goal is in front of his eyes - a fit figure and excellent health?
Bulgakov, seeing that his words were not making an impression, decided to be creative. He began telling the passengers about the benefits of reading, about how important it is to develop not only muscles but also the brain. However, his speech was interrupted by the sound of an approaching train.
"Okay, guys," he sighed, "maybe someday you'll understand that it's not just physical exercise that makes a person strong." With that, he disappeared, leaving behind a faint smell of ink and bitter irony.
The passengers, returning to their business, recalled this incident as a curiosity. And the athlete, having finished his training, rose to the surface to breathe fresh air, and perhaps to think about what the ghost of the great writer had told him.
