At the beginning of the twentieth century Sergei Yesenin often walked the streets of Moscow, admiring the architecture and how it echoed nature. One of his favorite places was Menshikov TowerOn the day this story began, a light autumn breeze played in his hair, and the sky was covered with gray clouds promising rain.
Yesenin stopped at the tower, admiring its strict and at the same time beautiful form. Suddenly a figure in a long coat appeared in front of him. The stranger's face was hidden under a hat, but Sergei immediately recognized him Fyodor Dostoevsky, whom he knew from portraits and books. “It seems that I have ended up in one of your novels,” Yesenin thought, but said out loud: “How strange to meet you here, among the marble walls and trees.”
Dostoevsky, smiling, replied: "Architecture and the forest are like a stage and actors. Each time they play a new play."
Yesenin nodded in agreement. They both silently looked at the forest that surrounded the Menshikov Tower, as if waiting for it to tell its story. And the forest began to speak. The wind whispered in the treetops, telling of secret meetings that had taken place here centuries ago. Of people who sought the truth hidden behind the marble walls, and of how the forest guarded their secrets.
“Here, among these trees, I always find inspiration,” said Yesenin, breathing in the fresh air.
“It is here, among nature and architecture, that I understand that ‘beauty will save the world,’” Dostoevsky quietly added, looking at the majestic walls of the tower.
They continued their journey, dissolving into the Moscow autumn, when the first drops of rain began to fall on the ground. At that moment, it seemed that nature and history themselves merged into one, creating a unique symphony of sounds and images.
And although this meeting was accidental, it left a mark on both of their hearts. In the future, they often recalled that day when architecture and the forest witnessed their conversation.
