Archives: Excursions (page 2)

Theater capital

The focus of this excursion is on the four pillars of Russian directing: Stanislavsky, Meyerhold, Vakhtangov, Tairov. Each of them was an experimenter, an innovator, striving to make acting and directing more complete, multifaceted and powerful. Stanislavsky, based on creative developments with Nemirovich-Danchenko, created a system of training actors and directors for roles and performances, which is now used by the whole world. Vakhtangov was the successor of Konstantin Sergeyevich's ideas, and Tairov and Meyerhold went their own special way, exploring the possibilities of the human body and psyche and applying the knowledge they gained in their productions.

Our route will tell you the story of brilliant directors and the temples of their souls. You will see:

  • Bolshoi Theatre.
  • Moscow Art Theatre II.
  • Moscow Art Theatre.
  • Meyerhold's apartment in Bryusov Lane.
  • Stanislavsky's house in Leontyevsky Lane.
  • Mayakovsky Theatre.
  • Ermolova's House.
  • Pushkin Theatre (Tairov Chamber Theatre).

We highly recommend visiting the K.S. Stanislavsky House Museum (MKhAT Museum) on your route.

Palace Dungeons

The Moscow metro is the oldest in the country, it was ceremoniously opened in 1935 and then consisted of only one line. You will see the marble-trimmed and mosaic-decorated Kievskaya, the Art Deco-style Mayakovskaya, the amazing stained-glass windows and chic chandeliers of Novoslobodskaya, and the stucco moldings of Komsomolskaya. The Moscow metro is a real museum, which some people visit daily, but do not always pay attention to its enormous artistic value.
